Eli Brown is a young inventor who is a new agent at The Phoenix Foundation.
Early life[]
Eli's parents were Chinese nationals who lived in the United States. His family lived in the Pinecliff Road Apartments complex and they would all frequently get ice cream from a local store near the building. Eli's parents had connections to the Chinese Defense Ministry. They discovered a trader in the FBI who was secretly working with the Chinese government. They approached FBI counterintelligence agents Elliot Mason and Joshua tried to defect to the United States. Mason and Joshua convinced Eli's parents to collect encrypted communications from the mole. Eli’s parents have lost faith in the FBI after they learned that agent Joshua was the mole and they decided to hide the phone and go on the run. Joshua arranged for the family to be killed in a car crash but Mason arrived and was able to save Eli.
Mason arranged for the young boy to be placed in the witness protection program and he created a new identity for him. He then lost touch with Eli and hoped that no one could trace the connection between the two of them. Eli then traveled through the foster system going through multiple foster families. Eli grew up as a child prodigy and many of his foster families and caseworkers tried to encourage him to live up to his potential. His time in the foster care system led to him having a troubled youth and Eli was expelled from six schools.
Season 5[]
Eli entered a science fair against 200 geniuses from ten different states and won with a '69 Chevelle that runs on hydrogen fuel cells. Every major tech company in the United States learned about Eli's victory and became interested in recruiting him. Matilda Webber also became interested in recruiting Eli to the The Phoenix Foundation and she convinced Russ Taylor to let her try to hire Eli. At first, Eli flat out rejected the Phoenix’s offer since he was enamored by the high-paying jobs the other recruiters were offering him. Matty made another attempt to recruit Eli with her pitch focusing on giving Eli’s life a higher purpose.
Just as Matty was getting through to the young scientist Russ called her away. Moments later armed assailants attempted to apprehend Eli. Russ and Matty rushed in to protect Eli and the group was forced to retreat into a parking lot. Eli then came up with an idea to alter Russ’ car's computer hardware to make it self driving car so it could be used as a diversion. Russ and Matty were impressed by Eli’s MacGyver-esque tactics and assisted him in altering the car. When the assailants started close in on the group Eli became anxious and Matty helped him concentrate by talking him through the process. The Phoenix Foundation later learned that Eli was being pursued by rogue FBI agents. They learned that Eli was in the witness protection program and since his Social Security number was active again the FBI agents could now find him. The group decided they had to reluctantly approach Elliot Mason, who was one of the FBI agents assigned to Eli’s case. Mason instantly recognized the young man and told him about his dark past. Matty convinced Mason that he had an obligation to help Eli and the group pursued the burner phone that Eli’s parents had hid.
The group returned to the site where Eli’s parents were killed and Russ used PSYOP tactics to help him remember details about his past. Eli was able to remember that he was living in a yellow brick building near an ice cream shop his family frequently visited. Eli became overwhelmed by the memories and ran off, while agents pursued the leads that he had provided them with. While off in the woods Eli was captured by Mason’s former partner Joshua.
Joshua had taken Eli back to the Pinecliff Road Apartments building where he had lived and forced him to reveal the hiding place of the burner phone. The Phoenix agents and Mason mounted a rescue and entered a standoff with Joshua and his rogue FBI team. Being back in the building had jogged Eli’s memory and he with able to signal Matty to show her where the phone was hidden. Russ and Mason then shot out the lights and overpowered Joshua’s men. The agents were able to save Eli and kill Joshua. After the incident concluded Eli had agreed to join the Phoenix Foundation laboratory division.

- Genius-Level Intellect: Eli is shown to be a young genius. He has competed in multiple science competitions and was always able to easily win even when he was up against top-notch competitors. Eli’s way of thinking is shown to be similar to Angus MacGyver’s thought process. He is shown to be able to take elements in the environment around him and use science to manipulate them to his advantage.
