Matty + Ethan + Fidelity is the 10th episode of Season 3 in the 2016 reboot version of MacGyver.

Synopsis[]

Matty reveals a shocking secret to the team: she has a husband who has been undercover in a criminal organization called D-Company for eight years. When his status as a CIA agent comes out, Matty need MacGyver to find and extract her husband before it's too late.^[1]

Plot[]

Cold Open[]

Christmas decorations light up Larchmont, California. Matty is waiting in the back seat of a black sedan. The door opens, and Dan Korbin enters. Matty asks what's so important that it's worth interrupting Christmas dinner with his family. He tells her that the agency won't do anything, and hands her a tiny wrapped gift box. After he leaves she opens it to reveal a thumb drive.

Back at the Phoenix Foundation, Leanna, Riley, Jack, and Mac are consoling Bozer about his Christmas pastrami going to waste. As they approach the war room, Mac points out that the summons to work sounded personal to Matty. Matty starts the briefing immediately, telling the team that a man named Samir Verma had been arrested for smuggling heroin into Croatia. Matty showed them interrogation footage from Lepavina Prison, instructing the team to ignore the words and focus on Verma's body language. He is smiling, casual, and unconcerned. Then he looks into directly the camera and speaks in English: "Tell the American CIA that I know all about Ethan Reigns, and I will start talking in forty-eight hours unless they walk me out the front door." Bozer is puzzled about who that is, and Matty informs him that Ethan Reigns is her husband. The two of them worked together at the CIA until eight years before the briefing, when he accepted a one-year undercover assignment (codenamed "Dragonfly") to be inserted into the largest criminal syndicate in southeast Asia. Telling him that his cover was blown was impossible, because he hadn't communicated with his handler in years, and all efforts to locate him had failed. Matty needs the team to break into the prison and pull out Verma.

Main Plot[]

Matty reveals the shocking secret that her husband has been undercover in a criminal organization for eight years; when his status as a CIA agent comes out, Matty needs MacGyver to find and extract her husband before it's too late. The team travel to Indonesia where Ethan is working undercover for a terrorist organisation called S Company. After a successful mission, the team learn that Ethan has a new wife and a young daughter which he gained while undercover. Matty later tells Ethan to go back to his wife and children, stating that they both need him.

Ethan Reigns is revealed to have the code name Dragonfly and is Matilda Webber husband.
Samir Verma was Prisoner 1138, a number referenced in the Star Wars movies and an early work of George Lucas.
